Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience working with national politics, government, think tanks, non-profit, or corporate public policy and public affairs.
- Ability to communicate in Japanese and English fluently as this is a customer-facing role that requires interactions in Japanese with local stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working with Japan's prefectures and in fast-paced environments.
- Experience in politics, public advocacy or the private sector’s government affairs field, with knowledge of policy making.
- Knowledge of Cloud, security, cybersecurity, AI and an understanding of Japan’s geopolitical policy.
- Knowledge of the technology sector or challenges impacting the internet (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, etc.).
- Ability to write and translate complex issues into a language suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work as part of a team and with people from a broad range of backgrounds and excellent acumen, communication, and presentation skills.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for leading engagement with different prefectures across Japan, identifying and building opportunities for Google.
- Be an advisor on Geo and Public Sector issues for APAC leadership and the team. Work closely with the Strategic Offense team within Knowledge and Information GAPP and the local GAPP in the region.
- Develop and execute logistical arrangements. Manage various campaigns, projects, and initiatives.
- Engage with politicians and policy-makers and share our narrative.
- Build a network across government agencies, trade associations, think tanks, experts, and others to support policies that will help create/maintain a user-focused online environment as well as an open internet.
