Amazon Web Services seeks a Manager to lead a team of Technical Infrastructure Program Managers (TIPMs) to support data center infrastructure expansion. This Manager, through their team, will lead cross functional teams to deliver Data Center build projects, from inception through design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
This leader drives the development and adoption of strategies in the region, initiates programs that address regional and global challenges and programs, coordinates and drives execution with local partner teams, removes obstacles during implementation, and reports progress and risks on all in-flight programs. This leader should be able to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. They are expected to become a voice of the region to influence new global initiatives and programs that will inform the next generation of Data Centers. This leader drives improvements in overall program execution, streamlines processes, and enhances efficiency. Successful candidates likely have a technical background in a technical discipline (architecture, engineering, or other sciences), have experience in project and program management of complex initiatives, are able to build trust and relationships with various stakeholders, and have strong problem solving skills. Experience in managing data center infrastructure deployments is a plus. Successful candidates are likely to be passionate, have no fear of constructive conflict, manage ambiguity well, and are eager to solve complex problems.
Candidates must be comfortable managing a team reporting to them located both locally and remotely. You will also interact and engage with matrixed project delivery teams across the globe. Successful candidates possess the ability to work with matrixed teams to troubleshoot project technical implementation issues and remove barriers to project success. Being able to lead cross-functional teams, establish trust with a variety of stakeholders across multiple time zones, manage capital budgets, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to accelerate project delivery is a must.
Successful candidates are fully competent in a variety of project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of a project's lifecycle and exhibit demonstrated proficiency in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking.
This position requires 10% domestic travel (trips to local AWS Data Center Clusters) and 5% international travel.

- Leading, hiring, and developing a team of Technical Infrastructure Program Managers (TIPMs).
- Serving as the cross-functional regional lead for the Japan and Korea regions and leaning in to offer strategy and support partner teams across a variety of areas such as: developing relationships and onboarding GCs; supporting Community building where our DCs operate; and developing relationships and helping drive policy related matters.
- Demonstrating tactical and strategic thinking and applying high judgement to ensure data center delivery for customers.
- Developing and reviewing metrics and assessing performance against targets to identify improvements to delivery timelines and opportunities to close gaps.
- Monitoring in-flight projects, major risks, and improvement efforts. Ensuring delivery is on track to meet supply commitments and constantly changing customer demand
- Diving deep into capacity issues to identify risks and opportunities, and resolving constraints by negotiating across multiple stakeholders.
- Identifying opportunities to invent and simplify processes, identifying business risks, and implementing scalable mechanisms both within the region and across Asia Pacific or globally.
- Providing concise written and verbal communication to a wide variety of stakeholders ranging from project summaries to stakeholders, summary of technical discussions, or communications with Senior Executives for strategic decisions.
- Managing metrics, tools, and mechanisms to ensure stakeholders are aware of ongoing risks or issues that require their action, decision, mitigations, or effort.
- Identifying alternative solutions, communicating throughout the organization to align direction, gain support and drive remediation efforts.
A day in the life
In this role, you will drive the execution of data center delivery programs in the Japan and South Korea regions by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. You will lead stakeholder meetings to align partner teams, share progress, and escalate quickly to deliver business outcomes. You will identify opportunities to invent and simplify process, develop seamless project execution and remove unnecessary or redundant process. You will communicate clearly, and proactively to remove roadblocks, pave the way for innovation, and can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Regular/ad-hoc communications and reporting to executive leadership, peer groups, and stakeholders.

As part of the AWS Infrastructure organization, the Data Center Planning and Delivery team prepares for, plans, and builds the data centers that comprise the AWS cloud. This team drives continuous improvement of AWS Data Centers to provide more efficient and reliable infrastructure to customers.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a similar technical discipline
- 10+ years of experience in core project management activities, including scoping, schedule, budget, quality, and risk and critical path management.
- 5+ years of experience managing complex technology or physical infrastructure projects
- 5+ years of people management experience
- Business-level fluency in written and spoken English and Japanese
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi-lingual in both English and Japanese
- Background in Data Center Infrastructure design, operations or delivery
- Understanding of the Japan and/or Korea data center markets, colocation service providers, design consultants, and contractors.
- Experience with managing multiple project budget
- Experience with analyzing and presenting data and influencing at various levels of seniority, from working level to executive.
- Experience with and deep understanding of project management methodologies
- Master’s degree in business or similar advanced professional degree
