The role
Are you keen to join a team where you will manage the expansion, fit-out and launch of operations of state-of-the-art Fulfillment Centers (FC), that stand behind the success of Amazon and support our customers in a fast paced and growing environment? Along with an opportunity to travel and work in multiple countries and cultures?
As an experienced Project Manager, you are responsible for ensuring FCs are built in time and on budget by coordinating work of different teams and stakeholders. You will support the continued expansion of Amazon's European fulfillment network, be responsible for overall project success by leading and influencing teams of business partners and technical stakeholders across a matrix organization for on-site projects execution. In addition, you will drive long term business strategy through standardization within our network.
Successful candidates will be natural self-starters with an established Project Management foundation and have experience managing large projects on accelerated schedules. You are capable of leading and mentoring project engineers, technical specialists and project managers in coordinating risks & opportunities on time, cost and quality. You are happy to interface, drive and support, both, cross-functional teams, subject-matter experts and individuals at all levels both inside and outside of reporting lines of the organization.
The role will be based in Germany with 50% of time traveling either domestically or to other EU countries.
Key job responsibilities
• Manage CAPEX projects within multidisciplinary and multicultural organisation for our customer fulfilment operations
• End-to-end ownership for warehouse project deliverables
• Integrated project scheduling, resource planning, critical path analysis and schedule optimization of all business, technical, fiscal and program activities across multiple projects
• Comfortable in different roles and able to effectively communicate & work with subject matter experts in Construction, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Procurement, Transportation or Contract law
• Coordinate multiple interdependent material flow and installation schedules of vendors
• Work alongside vendors and procurement departments to manage purchase orders
• Hold regular cadence with internal teams and vendors to plan and track deliverables
• Continuous project status tracking and communication, targeted and timely elevation of potential risks and issues across multiple teams and with project stakeholders
• Working independently and autonomously in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
A day in the life
You will plan and execute the business case that delivers operational fulfillment centers. Your day could include engagement with all levels of the organization to agree strategy, attend the site and own its development from a greenfield to a fully functioning FC, plan and manage resources to execute activities which you have detailed in an end-2-end schedule. You will make decisions on behalf of the business and see the outcome of these come to fruition through coordination of stakeholders, both internal and third party, and finally celebrating in the successful launch of the facility… Day One for all of us!
About the team
The EU Startup team is comprised of a talented group of project and program managers who drive coordination of all activities required to safely build highly complex FCs to network standards across the EU market. Our team puts a high value on work-life balance and we are dedicated to developing and supporting our new team members. This enables Project/Program Managers to execute to challenging timelines and frugal budgets to rapidly deliver new build, expansion, and retrofit projects derived from capacity, inventory, automation, and sustainability needs to improve customer experience, reduce costs and optimize the Amazon Fulfillment network.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in (Industrial) Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience leading and interacting with cross-functional teams
- Experience developing and managing large project budgets
- Experience in project management and implementation with proven ability to design workable solutions and drive projects to successful implementation
- Management, coaching and development of managers, teams and project resources
- Management of infrastructure projects
- English and German communication skills (verbal/written)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and MS Project
- Basic working experience with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Solid Works, or other)
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to effectively manage, influence, negotiate, and communicate with external business partners and internal teams to meet organizational capacity needs
- Extensive experience in project management and implementation with proven ability to design workable solutions and drive projects to successful implementation
- Work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
- Experience in launching new logistics center, factories or large facilities (including equipment deployment and management of all related processes)
- Certified Project Management qualification (PMP, Prince2, or other)
- Advanced CAD skills
- French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
