**About the Role**
We are currently looking for a Counsel, Safety & Insurance Litigation to join our team in São Paulo. The ideal candidate will have experience in civil, consumer, and insurance litigation, and a proven track record managing high-volume or complex litigation. While deep insurance knowledge is not mandatory, a strong ability to manage litigation portfolios, lead outside counsel, and collaborate with internal teams is key.
This is a highly cross-functional role that offers exposure to Uber’s most critical safety and insurance-related matters. You’ll have the opportunity to grow within a high-performing legal team and help shape litigation strategy in one of Uber’s most active and challenging markets.
**About Safety and Insurance Litigation team**
The Safety and Insurance Litigation team oversees and manages litigation and claims arising out of Uber's insurance policies. In doing so, the team works hand-in-hand with our insurance partners and outside counsel to drive solutions and innovate. The Insurance Litigation team also works across Uber's business teams, from operations to safety, to evaluate and manage risk.
You’ll be part of a regional team of litigators, working under the leadership of a Brazil-based Sr. Counsel and collaborating with counterparts in other LATAM countries. We have a strong partnership with the broader Global Litigation and Insurance Legal teams, as well as cross-functional alignment with Claims, Safety, and Insurance Operations.
**What the Candidate Will Do**
- Manage a portfolio of insurance claims and litigation in Brazil.
- Set litigation strategy and assist Outside Counsel throughout all phases of the litigation lifecycle.
- Provide legal advice on civil liability, insurance-related risks, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Act as liaison with internal stakeholders to align litigation strategy with business goals.
- Review and manage legal documents and data in internal systems.
- Support the preparation of playbooks, internal training, and business reports.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the legal team, including employment, regulatory, operations, and public safety.
**Basic Qualifications**
- Minimum of six (6) years of legal experience in private practice and/or in-house, with focus on civil liability and insurance litigation.
- Experience with Google Workplace and Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in Portuguese and English.
- Admitted to practice law in Brazil.
- Clear and concise communication skills.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects independently.
- Familiarity with digital tools and legal tech platforms.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Spanish fluency
- Strong academic credentials.
- Litigation experience across multiple jurisdictions.
- Enthusiasm for Uber's mission and legal innovation.
