Senior Workplace Health and Safety Specialist, WHS
Job Description

To help us achieve this, we’re seeking an enthusiastic Safety Specialist. With your Bias for Action we will need you to step in and support the Health and Safety (WHS) team in one of our sites.
The successful candidate will be an experienced, innovative and hands-on individual who is passionate about Health and Safety in a professional context. In time, we’ll expect you to become as customer-centric as we are and apply this to your work each day.
You will also need to be able to identify, coordinate and drive improvements in Safety, while engaging operational and other support function stakeholders. The Safety Specialist will report directly to the site WHS Manager.
Key job responsibilities
-Driving compliance with Turkish Safety Legislation, conducting compliance audits, developing action plan when required.
-Conducting legal safety training as per the related Turkish legislation requirements.
-Reviewing investigation, root cause analysis and action plan submitted by the responsible manager, provide feedback as needed.
-Conducting site walk, covering but not limited to:
o Engaging with associates and site occupants on hazard observation and operational safety rules
awareness.
o Coaching associates on WHS requirements and ergonomic postures.
o Sampling check on WHS requirements compliance.
o Verify Permit to Work (PTW) compliance.
o Coaching associates on reporting unsafe acts and conditions.
- Attending scheduled Ops GEMBA walk (including dedicated Safety GEMBA if existing), provide input to safety related escalations on Voice of Associates (VOA) board, or redirect escalation to the concerned owner.
-Monitoring the risk assessment plan (initial or review) execution by respective owner. Seek to understand progress barriers, re-align on reasonable timeline if needed or escalate.
-Updating and maintaining the site Emergency Response Plan.
-Provide input to site Ergonomic POC while performing biomechanical screening assessments
and simple ergonomic solutions risk assessments, in conjunction with Ergonomics team
-Assisting the WHS Manager with the construction of incident prevention programs
-Contributing to site requests for improvement of on-site safety and positively impact accident trends
-Assisting with the coordination and training of new Health and Safety team members
-Acting as a proxy for the WHS Manager, as and when required
-Arranging, facilitating and contributing to Safety Steering Committee meetings
-Review the safety metrics and develop reports, action plan, presentation regarding the lagging and leading indicators.
Basic Qualifications
-BS degree in engineering.
-Legal Safety Expert Certificate Class B
-NEBOSH IGC is an asset
-At least 5 years working in H&S in a logistics operations or similar industries.
-Strong Risk Assessment methodologies competency
-Strong Permit to Work systems and LOTO competency
-Incident investigation and root-cause identification working experience
-Strong Microsoft Office skills
-Strong English skills
Preferred Qualifications
-You possess experience of Lean, 5S and Kaizen methodologies
